IALT — iShares Systematic Alternatives Active ETF
IALT is BlackRock’s actively managed multi-strategy systematic alternatives ETF—built to rotate risk across market-neutral, strategic-premia, and dynamic macro sleeves rather than loading a single equity factor.
IALT price history
Total return (Yahoo adjusted close—dividends and splits per Yahoo), normalized to $10,000 at first available trade date. Educational only.
Strategy
IALT runs three sleeves: a market-neutral book (relative positions across single names), a strategic-premia book (relative value across countries and asset classes tied to valuation, sentiment, growth, and inflation signals), and a dynamic macro book that can take directional equity and credit risk when models favor it.
The fund uses swaps, futures, options, and forwards across global equities, rates, credit, and commodities. Sleeves rebalance with model output, so headline exposures can look different quarter to quarter.
Manager and Issuer Pedigree
BlackRock Fund Advisors serves as investment adviser; the listed portfolio managers sit with BlackRock’s Systematic Investing franchise—the same global quant organization that runs large institutional systematic books. BlackRock, Inc. reported about $14.0 trillion in total assets under management at Dec. 31, 2025 (annual filing / earnings), providing infrastructure, data, and compliance depth behind the ETF wrapper.
iShares is BlackRock’s retail ETF brand. IALT is a newer sleeve with a short live track record compared to flagship beta funds.
Outperformance
Outperforms when security-level dispersion, cross-country valuation gaps, or macro inflection points matter more than owning a static 60/40 mix, market-neutral books can earn when pair trades work, strategic premia can monetize macro tilts, and the dynamic macro sleeve can add convexity when trends break.
Underperforms when every sleeve faces hostile conditions at once: tight liquidity, correlated selloffs, or sharp reversals that whipsaw models), multi-strategy fees and implementation drag show up quickly, favorable environments are those where at least one pillar is clearly “open for business,” not when all markets grind in sync.
