HQU.TO - BetaPro NASDAQ-100 2x Daily Bull ETF

HQU is a daily-reset 2x Nasdaq-100 exposure sleeve in Canada, designed for tactical growth-beta positioning rather than long-horizon buy-and-hold allocation.

Equity Efficiency:A+Capital Efficiency grades how well this ETF delivers equity-side returns relative to the capital and beta it uses, with SPY as the B baseline. Leveraged ETFs score higher when they free up capital for an alpha sleeve. Long/short and factor ETFs are graded on excess return versus SPY, net of costs. HQU is a 2x daily Nasdaq-100 leverage sleeve. Capital efficiency depends on trend persistence versus volatility drag from daily-reset leverage.

Strategy

The fund aims for roughly two times the NASDAQ-100 daily return before fees. As with all daily leveraged ETFs, realized multi-day performance depends on sequence of returns, volatility, and rebalance math, not just start-to-end index change.

Because the index is tech-heavy and duration-sensitive, HQU’s risk profile is tightly linked to rates environment, mega-cap concentration, and momentum persistence. Position sizing and holding period discipline matter more than ticker selection alone.

Manager and Issuer Pedigree

Global X Investments Canada (formerly Horizons ETFs Management) is one of Canada’s larger ETF issuers. BetaPro daily leverage, enhanced-beta (~1.25×), and related fund-of-funds sleeves share the same listed-derivatives and operational infrastructure.

The sponsor operates under Mirae Asset’s global platform, which supports futures-based implementation at scale. Path risk, financing drag, and index concentration still come from the strategy, not from issuer size.

Outperformance

Outperforms in sustained risk-on growth phases where Nasdaq leadership is broad enough to offset daily leverage costs and volatility stays manageable.

Underperforms in violent rotations and chop, where reversal-driven compounding drag can erode returns quickly.
