FMTM - MarketDesk Focused U.S. Momentum ETF
FMTM is an active quantitative momentum sleeve: a focused book of 30 to 50 large and mid-cap U.S. names ranked on relative strength, using a shorter lookback so the portfolio can rotate toward defensive leaders during drawdowns rather than staying pinned to last year's winners.

Strategy
MarketDesk Indices ranks U.S. large and mid caps on relative momentum, then holds the strongest 30 to 50 names. The shorter lookback is the design choice: it reacts faster to leadership changes than a standard 12-month momentum screen, so the book can shift from offense to defense when the tape turns, at the cost of higher turnover and more sensitivity to short-term noise.
Concentration and faster signals cut both ways. In a clean trend the focused book compounds leadership; in choppy tape the quick rotation can buy into moves that immediately reverse. As a young ETF, spreads and premium/discount to NAV can widen in stress. The methodology and rebalance cadence are in the prospectus.
Manager and Issuer Pedigree
MarketDesk Indices LLC is the sub-adviser and signal provider; the fund runs on the Empowered Funds (ETF Architect) operating platform with PINE Distributors handling distribution. That splits the roles cleanly: MarketDesk owns the momentum research, ETF Architect owns the regulatory and trading infrastructure.
MarketDesk is a specialist research shop rather than a mega-issuer, and firm-wide AUM is not widely published; the fund itself is small, so liquidity is part of the return profile. Verify the prospectus and Form ADV for adviser detail and current assets before allocating meaningful capital.
Outperformance
Outperforms when price trends persist: durable sector or megacap leadership that compounds quarter over quarter lets the momentum screen keep riding winners, the trending growth environment where strength begets strength.
Underperforms in sharp factor rotations and choppy, mean-reverting tape where the shorter lookback rotates into moves that immediately reverse; favorable conditions are orderly trends with follow-through, not whipsaw that punishes a fast, focused momentum book.
