STRN - SMART Trend 25 ETF
STRN is a quantitative momentum equity sleeve: a concentrated book of about 25 highly liquid U.S. large caps selected for technical strength, with sector exposure capped to keep the trend bet diversified across leadership.
STRN price history
Total return (Yahoo adjusted close—dividends and splits per Yahoo), normalized to $10,000 at first available trade date. Educational only.
Strategy
STRN ranks large-cap U.S. equities on price-trend and technical-strength signals, then holds the highest-scoring names in a tight, roughly 25-stock portfolio. This is a long-only momentum factor expressed through stock selection: it leans into whatever sectors are leading, subject to caps that prevent a single theme from dominating. Turnover is higher than a broad index as the screen rotates into new trends.
Because the book is concentrated and signal-driven, leadership reversals can hurt quickly: the names with the strongest recent trends are the ones a sharp rotation punishes first. As a young, small ETF, spreads and premium/discount to NAV can widen in stress. The prospectus details the ranking methodology and rebalance cadence.
Manager and Issuer Pedigree
STRN is sub-advised by Smart Wealth LLC and distributed under the SmartWay ETFs brand through Foreside Fund Services. The strategy is rules-based trend following applied to U.S. large caps, so the edge rests on signal design and execution discipline rather than discretionary calls.
SmartWay is an emerging specialist issuer, not a mega-complex; firm-wide AUM is not widely published and the fund itself is small, so liquidity is part of the return profile. Verify the prospectus and Form ADV for adviser detail and current assets before allocating meaningful capital.
Outperformance
Outperforms when price trends persist: one-directional sector leadership that compounds quarter over quarter lets the momentum screen keep riding winners, the classic trending growth environment where strength begets strength.
Underperforms in sharp factor rotations where last quarter's leaders become this quarter's crowded exits, and in choppy, mean-reverting tape; favorable conditions are durable trends with follow-through, not abrupt reversals that whipsaw a concentrated momentum book.
